Family Formation (Grades: K-5)
Family Formation is our K-5th-grade Religious Education program. It emphasizes the role of the parents in the formation of their children as well as handing on the truths of the faith and introducing the child to a personal, prayerful relationship with Christ to children in an accessible way. The program meets once a month on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:00 pm. During these nights parents and their children learn about and deepen their Catholic faith. Children attend grade level classes with trained catechists while parents engage in their own adult sessions which feature speakers, videos, and group discussions. These sessions are guideposts. The real meat of the program is done at home. At each session, we send home a packet of Home Lessons with each family that they are to go through together. These Home Lessons are designed for parents to teach their children in a family setting in their home. This encourages and allows parents to witness by their actions and life the importance of their Catholic Faith to their children. Family Formation allows parents to successfully fulfill their God-given role as the primary educators of their children by completing Home Lessons received during Family Formation nights.
Ignite! (Grades: 6-10)
Ignite! is a middle and high school program designed to meet the needs of our youth at St. George. It meets bi-monthly on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:00. Built around the four pillars of the Catechism, the curriculum is on a five-year rotation, culminating in a capstone year in 10th grade. Youth participate in large group games, activities, and speaker events, but the main focus is in small group discussion with trained catechists. This small/large group approach allows youth to experience and build a Catholic culture among themselves in daily living while forming healthy and authentic relationships to grow their spiritual lives. Opportunities for prayer and sacramental life are offered through scheduled Adoration and Confession times throughout the year. Social events and group outings are also included to allow for positive human formation within the youth.
Dead Theologians Society (Teenage youth group)
Dead Theologians Society is for kids that either want more than just the regular religious education programs or for those who have been confirmed and want to keep growing in their faith. The Dead Theologians Society is a Catholic apostolate for high school age teens and college age young adults. Through the Saints of yesterday, the Dead Theologians Society inspires the youth of today to become the saints of tomorrow. A special charism of the Dead Theologians Society is to pray for the release of the Souls in Purgatory. Its motto is, “Dead to the World, Alive in Christ!” This is inspired by Romans 6:11 where St. Paul tells us to be dead to sin but alive in Christ Jesus. In addition to the regular meeting nights, we will periodically hold different events such as movie nights for those in DTS or other teens who would like to join in.
Consortio Christi (Middle school youth group)
Consortio Christi or the Company of Christ meets after Ignite, from 8-8:45pm. Consortio is a place to hang out with other middle school teens trying to grow deeper in their faith. We discuss how we can defend the faith and where certain Church teachings come from so the members are better equipped to live and explain their faith in the modern world. We also take on some small spiritual disciplines as well.
If you have a teen interested in joining or if you are an adult who would like to get involved and lead a group, you can contact Shane for more information.
We use YDisciple's online content quite a bit for both our Ignite program. YDisciple is a small group based program that uses activities, video, and discussion guides led by an adult to help teens learn and experience their faith. The beauty of this program is that it is built for parental engagement. You are able to watch all the videos and see the material that we will be teaching your child, and you can engage them in a discussion about it. They even have parent guides for your use.
